Welcome to the Bayou Playhouse

The Bayou Playhouse is located across the bayou from the original Lockport locks and across the street from the Bayou Lafourche Folklife and Heritage Museum in downtown historic Lockport. Passing through cypress groves one arrives in downtown Lockport by following the longest highway in Louisiana, highway one. Following alongside of this road is the bayou leading you directly into the Cajun heartland.

BAYOU PLAYHOUSE IS NOT AS FAR AS YOU THINK!

This new, already-acclaimed regional theater --- dedicated to only Louisiana works --- sits hanging over the water in historic old Lockport, a picturesque one hour drive from downtown New Orleans, a little more than half an hour from Houma or Thibodaux. Across from the Bayou Lafourche Folklife and Heritage Museum and cattycorner to the Center for Traditional Louisiana Boatbuilding, yes, it’s true, during intermission from the theater’s outdoor deck, you can often spot alligators swimming in the bayou.

Directions From New Orleans

1. Merge onto I-10 W toward BATON ROUGE/ NEW ORLEANS INT'L AIRPORT. 14.8 miles
2. Merge onto I-310 S via EXIT 220 toward BOUTTE/ HOUMA. 12.0 miles
3. Merge onto US-90 W toward HOUMA. 18.0 miles
4. Take the LA-1 exit toward LOCKPORT/ THIBODAUX. 0.3 miles
5. Keep RIGHT at the fork to go on LA-1 S. 5.6 miles
6. Turn LEFT onto BARATARIA ST. 0.4 miles
7. Turn LEFT onto MAIN ST., end at 101 Main St Lockport, LA 70374-2528
