ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

An exciting theatrical event is coming to Lockport, Louisiana. Lafourche Parish natives have joined forces to bring Anne Galjour's award winning hit Cajun comedy, OKRA to Lockport. South Louisiana natives and Nicholls State University alumnus Perry Martin and Anne Galjour both received National acclaim through theatre. Mr. Martin as director of the Off-Broadway hits, The Kingfish & A Different Woman and the 4 year tour of  Earl Long in Purgatory and Ms. Galjour's Off-Broadway hits, Hurricane & Alligator Tales.

ABOUT OKRA

"Steamy Cajun nights, food from heaven & a Mother from hell!"

OKRA takes a comical look at the never-ending question – What is stronger in the mother / daughter relationship, love or loathing?

A Cajun comedy by Anne Galjour

What happens when Lillian Bourgeois smothers her daughters with vinegar and love? They cook up hilarious dreams and schemes to stop their mama from throwing their inheritance down the video poker machine. This tasty Cajun comedy has more twists and turns then an alligator in a death roll.  With food playing an important supporting role, the play allows the audience to savor the smell of coffee, shrimp Creole and gumbo cooked on stage in a setting so intimate you can reach out and touch the actors – but please don't.

OKRA AWARDS

2004               Bay Area Theatre Critic's Circle Award for Best Original Script.

2005               Vle la Vie Marquee Award for Best Comedy.
