The Cheniere Caminada Story: A Commemorative was published in 1993 on the
100th anniversary of the hurricane of 1893 that destroyed Cheniere Caminada. Written by Robert B. Looper with John Doucet
and Colley Charpentier, and edited by Carolyn Portier Gorman, the softcover book contains the most extensive collection
of information on the people of the cheniere; the hurricane of 1893; the impact on the surrounding area, including Grand
Isle; articles on pirates, fishermen, resorts, and the church; and the aftermath of the storm, providing information on how
select families relocated. It documents the storm through maps, oral histories, and research. The book also contains an
excerpt of Tant que Durera la Terre, the award-winning play of the Cheniere Hurricane Centennial, written by John
Doucet. The 80-page, 8-1/2" x 11" book features photographs, illustrations, lists of survivors and victims, and
an index.
